Sea Change is a provocative new work. It is urgent and contemporary in its subject matter, universal in its theme.
— Jon Kimbell, Executive Producer Emeritus North Shore Music Theater

Sea Change is a contemporary musical about a young fisherman attempting to provide for his family as climate change impacts the fishing industry and the old patriarchal relationship to the sea transforms.

Set in Gloucester Massachusetts, Sea Change follows Michael Mateus, a family fisherman, as he struggles to find his way amidst a wave of New Age real estate developers, the warnings of traditional fishermen and an ancient Sea Goddess who a young woman in town seems to channel. Michael and Gloucester itself, struggles with fate, destiny, the environmental crisis and the timeless mystery of the sea.

Sea Change was commissioned by the North Shore Music Theater in Beverly, Mass. The original studio production took place at Emerson College and a subsequent draft was read at New Tuners Theater in Chicago. It was part of the 2017 Never Dark series at the Gloucester Stage Company.
